Phil ShawePhil Shawe

President and CEO

Phil Shawe co-founded TransPerfect in 1992. Today, TransPerfect is a global family of companies and the world’s largest privately held provider of language and business services. Shawe oversees the day-to-day operations of the company, headquartered in New York City.

Under Shawe’s leadership, TransPerfect has received numerous awards and distinctions. The company is a three-time honoree of the Inc. 5000 Award, a six-time honoree of the Deloitte Technology Fast 500, and has earned multiple Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service. Crain's New York Business has ranked TransPerfect as one of the largest privately held companies, as well as one of the largest women-owned companies, six years in a row. TransPerfect was also three times named one of the fastest-growing women-owned/led businesses in North America by Entrepreneur and the Women Presidents' Organization.

In 2008, Shawe was named to the prestigious “40 Under 40 list” by Crain’s New York Business. He sits on the Board of Directors for Girls Who Code, an organization with a single mission: to close the gender gap in technology. Shawe has spoken at New York University and Columbia University, and is a member of the Association for a Better New York (ABNY).

Prior to his career in the language services industry, Shawe was a Financial Analyst at Chemical Bank and a Global Custody Consultant at Merrill Lynch. Shawe holds an MBA in Finance and International Business from New York University's Stern School of Business, and he received his BS from the University of Florida where he triple majored in Finance, Marketing, and Risk Management.

 

Kevin ObarskiKevin Obarski

Chief Revenue Officer

Kevin Obarski is TransPerfect’s Chief Revenue Officer and has primary responsibility for company sales, client relations, and innovations that drive growth. He is a devout enabler of entrepreneurship within TransPerfect, helping employees from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels to grow into directors, senior managers, and executive-level positions. Kevin is committed to mentoring individuals to show them how to achieve significant and lasting success in a short amount of time.

Originally joining the company’s Atlanta office in 2001, Kevin has been a critical driving force behind TransPerfect’s 100+ consecutive quarters of profitable growth. He has personally overseen multiple new division launches and assembled and led teams to solve complex business problems, both within TransPerfect and for the company’s clients around the world.

Kevin is the proud father of three girls and is actively involved in charitable efforts that include Virgin’s Galactic Unite and Girls Who Code, both of which focus on promoting STEM education and careers, as well as the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

 

Michael SmythMichael Smyth

General Manager, Life Sciences Solutions

Michael Smyth is the General Manager of TransPerfect's Life Science Solutions division, including the Trial Interactive platform and its solutions. Smyth has over 20 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical clinical development industry. Prior experience includes clinical and vaccine development at Teva Pharmaceuticals, Merck, Quintiles, and Premier Research managing large global phase III international trials that have resulted in the approval of products including Daytrana and Focalin for ADHD, Copaxone for Multiple Sclerosis, and others. He has also spent over five years in clinical technology and services solutions supporting life sciences companies on a global basis with a strategic goal to move towards a paperless clinical development environment. Michael consults with our pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, and CRO clients to determine how to most efficiently use our Trial Interactive platform to streamline clinical development processes for all stakeholders. Smyth is an active member of the Drug Information Association as well as several clinical technology forums and has spoken at industry conferences on the multicultural challenges and solutions in conducting global clinical trials. 

 

Jessica EkerJessica Eker

Senior Vice President of Global Life Sciences

Jessica Eker is Senior Vice President of Global Life Sciences, and has been with TransPerfect since 2003. Primarily focused on the Life Sciences arena, and overseeing a global team of approximately 150 salespeople both in the life science space and out, Eker has helped the company establish worldwide partnerships with an array of pharmaceutical leaders including Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Novartis, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Daiichi Sankyo, and Merck, and has been responsible for the development of the TransPerfect's Linguistic Validation practice. Eker's articles on translation for clinical trials can be read in both Future Pharmaceuticals and EPC (European Pharmaceutical Contractor) Magazine, and she was a featured speaker for the 2008 Drug Information Association's (DIA) Annual Conference. Eker was named “National VP of Sales of the Year” at the 2010 Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Georgetown University in 2001 with a BSLA in Spanish, and a double minor in Business and Italian.  

 

Marc MillerMarc Miller

Vice President of Quality Systems
President of TransPerfect Medical Device Solutions

Marc H. Miller is President of TransPerfect Medical Device Solutions and Vice President of Quality Systems for TransPerfect. TransPerfect Medical Device Solutions is the only translation organization in the world to be ISO 14971:2012-certified and hold certification to ISO 13485:2016. Prior to founding Crimson, Miller worked as a Senior Research Associate for the strategy consulting firm, S.I.A.R, where he authored assessments for US and European medical technology companies. Miller earned his MBA degree in Marketing from the Scottish Business School at Stirling University, Scotland, and his BA degree in Celtic Languages and Literature from Harvard University.  

 

Garrett SmithGarrett Smith

Executive Director

Garrett is the Executive Director of Life Sciences Solutions at TransPerfect, strategically helping existing clients and new relationships implement language and technology solutions, such as Trial Interactive, to maximize efficiencies across the company. Prior to TransPerfect, Garrett spent nearly a decade establishing and growing a small, Maryland-based CRO, Accelovance – a three time Industry Excellence award winner. During this time he worked closely with clients to address timeline, budget and business goals and operationally strategize on ways to mitigate risk. His experience covers site logistics, patient recruitment campaigns and study branding, CRO services, call center operations, and strategic outsourcing. Garrett has previously spoken at industry conferences on the topics of clinical innovation, Sponsor/CRO relationships and patient recruitment. He is a regular guest speaker at William and Mary’s Mason School of Business and is a graduate of Virginia Tech.
